Series B funding: what it is, what comes after it, and who raised Series B or later in 2026
What Series B funding is, how it differs from Series A and from Series C and D, what investors look for before leading one, and the startups that raised a Series B or later round in 2026, with every amount linked to its source.
Series B funding is the round a startup raises once its business already works and the job becomes making it bigger: more markets, more products, a much larger team. On October 3, 2026, Recent Funding listed 3032 companies whose latest round is a Series B or later, and 555 of them announced that round in 2026 with an amount linked to its source.
Recent Funding records Series B, C, D and later rounds under a single stage, series-b+, so the lists below cover all of them. The stage comes from how the announcement describes the round, and every amount links to that announcement.
What a Series B is
By the time a company raises a Series B, the questions investors ask have changed. At Series A the question is whether something works and can repeat. At Series B it is how far it scales and what it costs to get there. A company raising one typically has:
- Revenue that grows predictably, with numbers that show what each new customer costs and what it brings in.
- A proven way to sell, so most of the money can go into doing more of it rather than finding it.
- A management layer: leaders hired for sales, engineering and finance, not only the founders.
Series B rounds are usually led by larger venture or growth funds. The investors from the Series A often take part again to keep their share, and the lead tends to price the company on its revenue rather than on its potential.
Series A vs Series B
- Series A funds scaling what already works: the first sales team, a repeatable channel, the first big hires.
- Series B funds expansion: new markets and segments, more products, and the operations to support them.
The labels describe where a company is, not a fixed amount. In this snapshot, 466 companies announced a Series A in 2026 with a linked amount, against 555 at Series B or later, and some of those Series A rounds are larger than many Series Bs.
What comes after Series B: Series C, D and later
- Series C usually funds a company that is already a leader in its market: acquisitions, international expansion, or a push to profitability.
- Series D and later often extend the runway before an IPO or a sale, or fund very capital-intensive work such as chips, energy and space hardware, where companies raise large rounds many times.
There is no fixed last letter. Some companies stop at Series B and become profitable or are acquired; others go to Series E, F and beyond.
The largest Series B and later rounds of 2026
These are the biggest rounds announced this year by companies whose latest round is Series B or later. 213 of the 555 linked rounds this year were a hundred million dollars or more, and 9 reached a billion. Very large figures are worth reading at the source before quoting: some combine several tranches, debt, or a secondary sale into one headline number.

How to find startups that just raised a Series B
Every company here has a profile with its round history, investors and source links, for example Sierra at /companies/sierra/. To follow new rounds as they are announced, filter the directory by stage, or query the API (the + in the stage is written %2B in a URL):
curl "https://recentfunding.com/api/v1/rounds?stage=series-b%2B&since=2026-01-01&limit=5"
Each round in the response carries the amount and the source_url it came from. The API guide lists every field and filter, and the funds that lead these rounds are ranked on the investors page. For the stages before this one, see pre-seed funding, seed-stage startups and Series A funding.
